MAP counter-guarantee for Malta Enterprise

Under the framework of the European Commission's Multiannual Programme for Enterprise (MAP), EIF has provided a counter guarantee covering the loan guarantee activities of Malta Enterprise (ME) in Malta. The cooperation will support the establishment of an SME loan guarantee scheme in Malta.

Based in San Gwann, ME was created in 2003 to promote the establishment and expansion of business enterprises in Malta. One important role of ME is to support Maltese SMEs by extending guarantees on investment loans to companies with up to 100 employees. Eligible guarantees to be covered would be referenced to medium and long-term investment loans with a minimum maturity of at least 3 years. ME is the only Maltese guarantee fund that provides guarantees covering SME loans.

This agreement is the first contract under the MAP facilities with an intermediary in Malta.
