EIF has officially launched the Social Impact Accelerator (SIA), the first pan-European public-private partnership for social impact investing. SIA is a pilot facility which supports social impact investing in Europe and was set up by EIF in collaboration with private sector investors (Crédit Coopératif, Deutsche Bank). For EIF, SIA is part of the wider EU policy focus on supporting social entrepreneurship.
SIA focuses on social enterprises, a segment of the business world which is becoming increasingly instrumental in promoting social inclusion, providing alternative sources of employment for marginalised social groups and contributing to growth.
The event took place at the EIB premises with a keynote speech from Sir Ronald Cohen, also known as "the father of British venture capital" and "the father of social investment". The keynote speech was preceded by SIA’s signing event with the two investors who are now joining the EIB Group at first closing as part of an undertaking to pioneer strong public-private partnership in the sector.
