  • The operation is backed by InvestEU, an EU programme to unlock over €372 billion in investment by 2027.

The European Investment Fund (EIF), the arm of the European Investment Bank Group (EIB Group) specialised in equity investments in small and medium firms (SMEs) and mid-caps, has invested €75 million in the infrastructure fund Serena Infra II SCA SICAV-RAIF. The fund has a target volume of €250 million and is managed by Serena Industrial Partners, Spanish infrastructure fund manager.

The objective of Serena Infra II is to invest in projects linked to early stages of sustainable mobility, water, social or digital infrastructure, as well as energy transition projects (such as biogas, biomass or energy efficiency). The fund has a pan-European scope and it is expected to invest in a portfolio of eight to ten assets with an average investment of €25 million to €30 million.

Marjut Falkstedt, EIF Chief Executive said: “Through this operation with Serena Infra II, the EIF is encouraging investment in sustainable transport infrastructure and energy transition. These are essential in the shift towards a low-carbon economy in which people can enjoy more sustainable and efficient modes of transport.”

Joaquin Camacho, Managing Partner of Serena, added: “The EIF investment ‘highlights Serena's work as a manager that invests in sustainable infrastructure projects that are essential to society, generate long-term value and foster more resilient economies.”

This EIF investment supports the EIB Group’s core strategic priority and cross-cutting business line, climate action and environmental sustainability, as set out in the EIB Group 2024-2027 Strategic Roadmap. It places special focus on energy transition and sustainable transport initiatives. The operation is backed by InvestEU, an EU programme aiming to unlock over €372 billion in investment by 2027.
