By supporting SMEs who drive climate innovation – as well as the infrastructure projects upon which transition is made possible – we are helping to make a difference.
"To make it to a European net zero and dial back emissions, we need to spark transformative and innovative solutions for our climate."
Sustainability and green transformation is one of our Public Policy Goals (PPGs), which - since 2020 - are guiding EIF's activity. Our efforts in support of EU priorities take the form of thematic interventions with clear policy targets.
Our colleague Diana Pătrașcu explains how the EIF has been committed to sustainability and green transformation.
The green transition is as much about survival as it is an economic imperative.
Our commitment spans from supporting early-stage innovators developing the technological solutions that will put Europe - and indeed the planet – on a more sustainable path, to helping these businesses grow and their solutions scale. We are also dedicated to ensuring that companies from all sectors of the economy are able to access the financing they need to adapt and future-proof their business models.
This year, our focus on sustainability and the green transformation has taken centre stage, representing 49% of our commitments.
The EIF supports the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in measuring international efforts to end world poverty, protect the planet and ensure that everyone can enjoy peace and prosperity. The EIF's PPGs can be mapped against the SDGs, in order to clearly understand how the EIF's thematic efforts contribute to the wider global effort under the UN.
