The EIF supports Slovak SMEs with a broad mix of equity and guarantee instruments, working through local intermediaries to tackle financing challenges and foster business growth.

Key initiatives include co-investments in local VC funds via COSME and InnovFin mandates, as well as InvestEU-backed guarantee instruments that make working-capital and investment lending more accessible. By drawing on EIF shareholder networks, these tools strengthen SME financing capacity across Slovakia.

Matsuko

“Matsuko is more than just a name,” says Maria Vircikova, CEO of the world’s first holographic presence app, which lets users interact via real-time holograms.

The innovative startup received equity investment from the Slovak Venture Fund, backed by the EIF under InnovFin Equity, supporting its commercialisation and new distribution deals with telecommunications providers and industries like automotive and construction.

Debt financing intermediaries in Slovakia

The EIF supports micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by working with a wide range of funds, banks and promotional banks, leasing companies, guarantee and microfinance institutions or any other financial institution financing to SMEs across Europe.

These act as EIF's financial intermediaries and provide financial products to SMEs.

EIF in Slovakia

Representing 99% of all businesses and more than two thirds of the workforce, Slovakia's 596,000 SMEs are responsible for driving innovation as well as spurring on growth, and their daily routine is what ensures the competitiveness of the Slovak economy. But to do that, they often need finance.

At the EIF, our mission is to improve access to finance for small businesses across the EU. In Slovakia, we have been supporting SMEs using a broad range of instruments, including many tailored to the needs of the Slovak market and designed with the Slovak government and local authorities.
