Since 1998, the EIF has helped Austrian businesses get the finance they need to grow and supported more than 14,000 companies across the country.

Our programmes have unlocked new funding opportunities for small businesses in high-impact sectors. The InnovFin SME Guarantee Facility have catalysed over €352 million, while the EIB Group synthetic securitisation aims to unlock nearly €200 million more – supporting projects that drive innovation, sustainability, and digitalisation.

A family business with a global outlook, SAPOTEC tested its first prototype in Vienna in 2022, with future offerings focused on sustainability.

The company received financing backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) under the InvestEU programme, supporting its growth and innovation in sustainable energy solutions.

Debt financing intermediaries in Austria

The EIF supports micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by working with a wide range of funds, banks and promotional banks, leasing companies, guarantee and microfinance institutions or any other financial institution financing to SMEs across Europe.

EIF in Austria

Representing 98% of all businesses and more than two thirds of the workforce, Austria's 405,000 SMEs are responsible for driving innovation as well as spurring on growth, and their daily routine is what ensures the competitiveness of the Austrian economy. But to do that, they often need finance.

At the EIF, our mission is to improve access to finance for small businesses across the EU. In Austria, we have been supporting SMEs using a broad range of instruments, including many tailored to the needs of the Austrian market and designed with the Austrian government and local authorities.
