Climate and Infrastructure Funds
Under the Invest Climate & Infrastructure Product, the EIF will provide equity investments to, or alongside, climate & infrastructure funds investing in one or more of the six Thematic Strategies laid out below.

Thematic strategies
Clean Energy Transition & Climate
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- Renewable energy generation, transmission, distribution and storage
- Storage and hybrids renewables
- Renewable infrastructure exposed to demand and price risk
- Energy efficiency
- Cross-border energy infrastructure / projects of common interest (PCIs)
- Projects that support the decarbonisation of and substantial reduction of emissions of energy-intensive industries
Sustainable Transport
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- General transport infrastructure
- Cleaner, Safe and Smart Mobility
- The development of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T)
Environment & Resources
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- Natural capital and circular economy infrastructure
- Bioeconomy
Digital Connectivity & Data Infrastructure
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- Digital connectivity
- Data Infrastructure
- Online platforms & Media infrastructure
Social Infrastructure
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- Health and care facilities
- Social services, including at community-based level
- Educational and training infrastructure, including schools, training facilities and digital equipment
- Affordable social housing
- Enabling services related to the above
Space Infrastructure
Investments in funds whose investment strategy targets one or more of the following non-exhaustive list of Target Areas:
- Development, upgrade and greening of new and existing space and ground infrastructure
- Solutions for spacecraft de-orbiting and de-commissioning.
Horizontal priorities
In addition to the Thematic Strategies, InvestEU also requires to fulfill Horizontal Priorities. With a view to address gaps in the financing ecosystem, the InvestEU Climate & Infrastructure Funds product is seeking to boost investments into two key Horizontal Priorities.
How to apply?
The EIF selects financial intermediaries based on a call for expression of interest and a standard selection process including due diligence. The call for the InvestEU Climate and Infrastructure Funds is now available here.
