The current head of Venture Capital business, Matthias Ummenhofer, left EIF on 30thSeptember 2014 to found a European-focussed Venture Capital Fund of Funds. Matthias joined EIF early 2001 from the European Investment Bank.

Matthias will be succeeded by Uli Grabenwarter, who is currently leading EIF’s Social Impact Accelerator activity. Uli had been leading the VC team before Matthias took over in 2010 and has always been involved in the Venture Capital Business since he joined EIF in 2000. Uli will be leading both the VC investing and the Impact Investing activities for EIF going forward.

EIF’s Chief Executive, Pier Luigi Gilibert, commented: “Matthias has played a crucial role in building and managing EIF’s Venture Capital business during the last 14 years. Beyond contributing to the success of EIF he has also played a significant role in shaping the European Venture Capital Ecosystem. With his new venture, Mojo.Capital, he is responding to the need and opportunity of a private Venture Capital Fund of Funds focussing on Europe: Matthias has the experience, skills and ambition to make this a success and we sincerely wish him all the best. I also welcome Uli to take on this important responsibility and I am certain that our Venture Capital business is in best hands!”.
