- target sectors
- fund size
- legal structure
- proposed terms
- expected returns
- other investors
- timing of fund raising
Once we have established that the investment opportunity may meet our investment criteria, we will typically invite your team to present your proposal. Thereafter, we carry out detailed due diligence on all aspects of the proposal before we confirm our willingness to invest.
It is not necessary to indicate on the information memorandum whether the proposal is intended for an EIB Group or an European Commission funded programme. Our venture capital team will allocate the source of funding at a later stage in the assessment procedure.
If you are a Financial institution and wish to become an EIF intermediary:
- We cooperate with a wide range of financial intermediaries such as banks, guarantee funds, mutual guarantee institutions, micro credit providers, public and promotional banks. Our guarantee instruments consist of two main products supporting access to finance for SMEs:
1) Credit Enhancement-Securitisation (guarantees for securitised SME financing instruments)

2) Guarantees/counter-guarantees for portfolios of micro-credits, SME loans or leases (management of programmes of the European Commission)

Under the SME Guarantee Facility (SMEGF), we provide capped guarantees partially covering portfolios of financing to SMEs. These are known as EU Guarantees. The SMEGF is funded by the European Community under the CIP 2007 - 2013 (Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme). Institutions need to provide a formal application for the Loan, Micro-credit, or Equity Guarantee Windows.
