EIF sees top-tier investment opportunities in German Early-Stage Technology market

Date: 27/09/2006

The European Investment Fund (EIF) has signed a cornerstone commitment in Creathor Venture Fund II GmbH & Co. KG, a Germany-based early-stage venture capital fund. The fund closed in its first and final closing well above its target size of EUR 50 million. The investment focus is on early-stage, high-growth, high-tech companies in markets such as Telecommunications- and Information Technology, Internet and Media, Nano- and Microtechnology, New Materials and Electronics and Med-Tech and Biotechnology. Geographically, the fund will mainly target investments in Germany but will also consider investing in France and in the rest of Europe. The Fund is managed by Dr. Gert Köhler, general partner and co-founder of former Technologieholding VC GmbH, and partners Ingo Franz and Karlheinz Schmelig.

Matthias Ummenhofer, Deputy Head of Division Equity Fund Investments of the European Investment Fund and head of the ERP team, commented: We are pleased that the ERP-EIF Dachfonds has committed to Creathor Venture Fund II at a moment when the early-stage environment offers opportunities to invest at low entry valuations in companies with excellent business cases. We are convinced that the Creathor team has all the ingredients to address this market opportunity and is uniquely positioned to deliver exceptional returns to investors.
